Enough Is Enough...

Well I don't mind a strictly limited use of MJ for certain medical reasons but I strongly oppose it made legal for recreational use.

So I will agree with you there and thanks for your understanding. I do like your politics and defense of Trump. He is saving America IMHO. Thank you, thank you very much

I might even support this bill if the democrats will sign a pledge that this is the final legislation they will put forward and they will not seek legalization for recreational or any other use for the next 25 years. I guarantee they would refuse.
Why did you say, Democrats? Wasn't it a Republican that presented the bill? Did a Dem put forth a recreational bill?

I sincerely do not care what side of the fence puts the bill forward for medical use, just put it through. It is absolutely ridiculous that something proven cannot be used because others might abuse it. Look around, people abuse everything; prescription drugs, legal alcohol, even food. Do not punish those suffering because someone else might use and abuse it.

I would suspect because the states that have legalized it for recreational use are progressive liberal states.

I'm strongly for medical use now but firmly against recreational use. If recreational use ever passes I believe the market will explode and I will gladly trade related stocks to make money off those who partake.

I guess, maybe. I just thought we were addressing Georgia and thought that the bill was presented as medical by Republicans. (I could be wrong and there could be another bill, I have not kept up closely, which is why I asked if the D's did.) If R's present a medical bill why go to D's to sign some kind of pledge not to ask for recreational before you support just a medical bill?

I really want to see medical marijuana passed here in GA. My wife could really use CBD oil in my opinion for all her back pain and nephropathy. I want her off Lyrica so bad as I have read of MAJOR issues that is causes to your body. I believe CBD oil would be the best long term solution for her. Recreational use, no freaking way. We would have a food crisis if that happened. :stirpot:

I agree that if I had a loved one in pain that would benefit from pot, I would hope my doctor doctor could write a prescription for it just like they can for oxycontin. Why instead a card for medical cannabis from an approved dispensary?

Florida has had problems with marijuana doctors. I still don't know why it has to be any different than how we currently are prescribed medicine for pain, but instead Marijuana clinics and dispensaries open up.

Florida’s medical marijuana program is attracting troubled doctors: ‘It’s like the Wild Wild West’

A Tampa Bay Times examination of the 1,432 doctors in the program reveals Florida’s new marijuana initiative has turned into a magnet for physicians with troubled pasts.

The physician adds a patient’s name to a state database, and the state issues a card that lets him or her receive medical cannabis from an approved dispensary.

Marijuana doctors were 2.8 times as likely as other doctors to have been disciplined by the Board of Medicine, and 2.4 times as likely to have been charged with a crime. Altogether, 108 of them were responsible for $69.4 million in malpractice judgments and settlements, some for maiming or killing patients.

Some of the doctors have been fined, suspended or stripped of their licenses in other states. They’ve misdiagnosed conditions, falsified records and written prescriptions for people they never saw.

John Morgan wants to put recreational marijuana on Florida's 2020 ballot.

Maybe it’s just time for full legalization. It would pass with flying colors!

Guys like @FLGovScott would vote no but

him. https://twitter.com/JimRosicaFL/status/1011635774855499777 …

I'm going to look at starting a fund where we all can donate to get full marijuana legalization on the ballot in 2020.

When you mess with the will of the people there are unintended consequences!!

The cannabis industry is well funded now. Money won’t be a problem. #ForThePeople

The United States Senate race between The Astronaut and #SlickRick will be decided by the politics of pot!

We are at a tipping point much like same sex marriage was a few years ago. Democracy rules in the end!!
The attorney, who was behind the 2016 constitutional amendment legalizing medical marijuana in the state, is currently behind an effort to get an initiative on the 2020 ballot.

Polecats and their cronies...

Would turn the entire country into pot-heads...

Wonder how much $$$ they think they are gonna make by destroying the USA...

And more important... I wonder if any of them have though about where they are gonna spend the $$$... if the freedoms of the USA are restricted... because the country is full of pot-heads???

I have no idea why it is like that, but I know, in my circle, people that could benefit. Anyone stopping medical marijuana, in my opinion, just sucks.

Precisely why I think this all a giant ruse, what they want are the dispensaries. They can handle the medical requirements of cannabis through refinement and prescription, just like morphine or codeine, but they want to sell cannabis to smoke, thereby saying "See,,, it okay,,, the Government says so!"... and we don't need to grow it here!!!! We don't grow opium poppies here, but Georgia's hospitals have plenty of morphine. The whole thing is a huge step down the slippery slope to recreational pot, and if that is what they want,,, let'em move to Colorado!!! If what you require is a medicine, let a pharma refine it into the drug needed and dispense it at a pharmacy, just like oxycotin!!!

Well Canada has just gone insane and passed a bill legalizing recreational use of pot. Wow. It will be the largest country in the world to do so and soon the dumbest IMHO.

Canada has become the biggest country in the world to fully legalize recreational marijuana.

The Senate passed Bill C-45 — otherwise known as the Cannabis Act — with a vote of 52-29. This paves the way for a billion-dollar industry to finally begin flourishing.

Once the law goes into effect in the next 8 to 12 weeks, Canadians will be allowed to purchase recreational marijuana legally from government-regulated retailers.

Citizens will also be able to carry up to 30 grams of cannabis, grow four plants in their homes, and create their own edibles in the comfort of their homes.

Government regulated in Canada = Government taxed and Government owned. This is a government funding grab.

Carp, I bet this means I'll have to get to the airport another 30 minutes earlier for the extra searches when I'm coming back from Ottawa and Montreal. Customs will have a field day.

I have heard several things first hand from young people who live where pot is legal in the state.

One comment was about a 23 year old gal who has already had a DUI... and is most times drunk by 10:00 AM... also keeps a bong in her car with the pot in it. They have seen her get in the car, light up the bong, get high... then drive off. The person who witnessed this said her car smells horrible, like the pot.

I guess the police have no recourse if she is pulled over, unless she is drunk too.

Another younger person told me they know a person who is high all the time... and quote, "He told me he drives better when stoned :dunno::facepalm:because he does not get angry at stupid drivers."

My concern is we have 18 to 25 year olds who are not successful in life (neither of the two above examples have their proverbial shit together,) but they are so checked out in life they have no concept they are putting others in danger... because it is legal in their state. :nono:

Dr. Oz had a lengthy segment on the science of cannabis for pain relief this afternoon...

It was pretty interesting.

Alcohol is legal and there are rules against driving. We know not everyone follows them, but are there rules regarding being high and driving? What about smoking it in a public place? I know my martini is not drifting over to anyone, but how do they handle pot?
It is sad that those young adults you know are so out of sorts. I hope they straighten out their crap before it is too late.

I agree... I don't know them personally, the ones I knew were complaining/sharing what these people told them and what they saw them personally do. I asked them both.. you haven't gotten in the car with them have you? The comment was, "God no." So I was glad for that.

I thought of telling them to call the cops on them, but let it rest. There are rules against driving stoned, but it is hard to tell how much or when they last smoked. Here is basic info:

2. How does the prosecutor prove that someone drove under the influence of cannabis?
Proving DUI of marijuana presents serious challenges for a prosecutor. This is because unlike alcohol, there is no “legal limit” for marijuana under California law

In this respect California is different from some other states. Some states restrict the amount of THC that can be in a driver's bloodstream.

THC (short for “delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol”) is the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. It is what makes users feel “stoned” or “high.”

Some strains of weed are low in THC and high in a substance known as “cannabidiol” (“CBD”). CBD is a non-psychoactive substance found in marijuana.

Many medical marijuana users choose high CBD strains so as to obtain the health benefits of cannabis without getting high.

Chemical tests for cannabis are not reliable
Some of the reasons why California has no legal limit for THC include that:

  1. Chemical tests for THC are not yet reliable enough, and
  2. Experts cannot agree how much marijuana is too much for driving.
We discuss these issues at length in Sections 4 and 5, below. But in short, a chemical test alone is usually not sufficient to convict someone of DUI of marijuana.

3. Which chemical test will a driver have to take after an arrest for VC 23152(f)?
When someone is arresting for driving under the influence, he/she must be offered the choice of either a DUI breath test or a DUI blood test.

Most drivers choose a breath test, which is less invasive than a blood test.

But if drug use is suspected, a driver may be required to take a blood test, even if he/she initially chose a breath test. This additional test may only be requested, however, only if the officer reasonably believes that:

  • The driver is under the influence of marijuana or other drugs, and
  • A blood test will reveal the presence of drugs.
This typically happens in the following situations:

  • A breath test comes up negative, or low, for alcohol, and/or
  • The officer smelled marijuana on the driver, and/or
  • The officer observed physical signs of intoxication, and/or
  • The officer found drugs and/or drug paraphernalia in the driver's car.
Note that if the driver cannot take a blood test because of a medical condition (such as hemophilia) – or if blood testing is not available – the driver may take a urine test instead.

4. How reliable are chemical tests for marijuana?
There are three basic problems with using chemical tests to prove that someone drove under the influence of marijuana:

  1. Chemical tests don't indicate reliably when cannabis was used;
  2. They don't indicate reliably how much was used; and
  3. There is no consensus on how much marijuana leads to impaired driving.
Test results can also vary depending on which type of test is used.

I know my martini is not drifting over to anyone, but how do they handle pot?
Oh and I agree that when you drink it stays in your body. Isn't it funny that Californians for instance who are so progressive on outlawing smoking in public, have voted pot legal?

I manage hotels, and even in a state that it is not legal, they are smoking pot in the room. The smell is harder than cigarettes to get out of the room and hallways.

Often my front desk would dispatch one of us up to the room because the guest smelled so strong, they knew they just finished smoking. Most hotel chains are smoke free, so smoking anything is no longer allowed. Hotels will keep their deposit if they paid cash, or charge their credit card the smoking fee.

We were consistently shocked that they would be that stoned so early in the day, and they were leaving the hotel in their car. Not much we could do about it.
