Dave Ramsey: Why You Shouldn’t Buy a New Car/Take Out an Auto Loan This Year

We've often had car payments, but usually paid them off and at least saved some for a down payment on the next one.

We actually had both paid off for over a year, until we got my wife's highlander last October because we needed to drive to Miami and were not sure the Equinox with 160K would make it. Had saved up a 20k down payment which was nice.

Other than the fact that cars are generally not investments, I think the broader message is that with economic uncertainly coming, it would be wise for most people to keep their debt low right now and try to put back some cash. If what I think is coming actually happens, I fear a lot of people will lose their jobs and not be able to make those payments on car loans and credit cards. Some will fare worse still.

There are some awesome deals on 2024 RAM 1500s right now. They already have some 2025s out. If they offered a regular cab short bed version, I'd buy one today. Sadly, they don't.
'Cause everyone is waiting on RamCharger. 400+ HP and 600+ miles range! Oh Yeah!

One thing appears certain, if you want a new vehicle with a V8 or even a powerful V6, get them soon before they are gone for good.

If I had money to waste, I'd get a couple of the big V8 and/or Turbo Diesel models and store them for 10 years when the only thing available is electric. I'd bet I could find somebody then who would buy them for big money.

I dunno, Ford and Chevy seem to be staying with some big V-8s for awhile. Ford just put a bunch of money into their new medium truck V-8s. Ford also seems to be hanging onto the Coyote V-8 for the F-150 for a bit.

I've also read that RAM will till offer the HEMI in 3/4 and one ton trucks.

The six cylinder engines are getting even more powerful. Ford is still tweaking the Ecoboost, and the Stellantis Hurricane is apparently a beast. I predict a slightly larger displacement version of the Hurricane to come, making even more power.

I've wondered what will happen to the value of the HEMI Rams? While the new Hurricane engine will out-perform them, they sure don't have that sexy V-8 sound. And I'm reading that gas mileage is not much better. I've been very pleased with gas mileage on my RAM, I've seen 25 mpg on the hwy. That's pretty impressive for a 400 hp engine. From what I read, the main reason for killing off the HEMI was emissions, not so much efficiency. However, I've also read that the Hurricane is so silky smooth, you can't tell it's running.

Pffft..... Cars and Trucks ?

Who needz'em ??

Last weekend I took mine out for the first ride of the year. It was so nice, just what the doctor ordered. Wore the pot helmet instead of the full helmet, the wind felt great.
