Annnnnd, Paulding County strikes again!

I've had all my household expenses (utilities, insurance, cable, etc.) set up on auto pay for decades.

Recently, I needed to switch bank accounts away from the one I had been using. Called Greystone, they handled it in just a few minutes. Called my Farmer's Insurance agent, less than 3 minutes. Logged onto Scana Energy, ditto. Ditto with Comcast.

And, then there's Paulding County Water. They wanted me to bring by, or mail them, a "voided check". Seriously? Who the hell uses checks any more? Just maybe if those butt-heads would spend some of our money updating their website and computer systems vs building fancy office space, they'd be able to join the 21st century. They refused to take my routing and account information over the phone. Have to fill out a paper form and either mail or bring it to their office. Flash!!! This ain't 1960 any more. Most of their customers have a full set of teeth and can read and write.

That's nothing, wait until you have to deal with Social Security!!!! Couldn't find a phone number that lets you talk to a rep, just kept pointing you to their online app. I have an online account, but can't remember the password. Fortunately the bank sent through a deposit change. I learned something though,,, banks have a different routing number for deposits and withdrawals,,, didn't know that!!!!

Yeah. Just went there. Tried to open a new online account. It started asking me questions about mortgages I may have had, truck leases, phone numbers, streets I lived on, etc. Not one thing was recognizable to me except an old phone number. None of the streets, etc. Wouldn't let me finish the application because apparently, I'm a fraud.

Me too!!!!! :dunno:

I thought I was the only one!

I can't get my "free" copies of the 3 companies that make up your Fico score. I know my score because 2 of my banks give it to me each month, but I wanted to check that everything was right. They asked questions I have no information about... now I want to put a freeze on my credit because of the kind of questions they asked... can't get that done either cause I can't pass the security questions.

I have not had a car loan in over 10 years, but the question asked who I financed a recent car loan? :whut: That's scary! :nono:

It asked about an address for someplace I rented in Seattle, for one year, 35 years ago when I worked for an airline... but I spent most of my time back home in San Diego, only using the Seattle apartment when I was in town there, which was 6 to 10 days a month. I could not "Pass" the questions asked because some were so unimportant in my life, I no longer remember.

If I were under 27 years of age it would be easy. I think the effen Millennials have come up with this new form of "security." Can't wait for them to age...

Get off of my lawn! :fingerwag:

I read about this a few years ago...

The idea is to ask questions you can answer, and questions you cannot answer...
And the software gives you a score based on how you answer them (not particularly if you have the correct answer or not).
Not sure how it 'grades' you...
However IMO this may be a topic to get Clark Howard riled up about... :D

Always push. I have never trusted folks to just pull what they think I owe out of my bank account. Paying bills online through your bank's website or app takes just minutes, and you control when and how much gets paid. Otherwise, one mistake on their part could drain your account and you would be in a world of hurt getting it straightened out.
