They started off well when they began servicing my area.

It's been downhill ever since. Approximately three out of four packages are late.

I have cancelled two and gotten refunds, only for the packages to show up three days later. So I guess I got those for free.

The one package due today that did arrive was left in the rain and was soaking wet. Luckily it was not an item that would be ruined by water.

They need to get it together.

Related question....is it just me or are many Prime items now showing as taking longer than 2 days for delivery? I was looking for something today and almost every item was listed as Prime and in stock but was showing delivery in about 5-7 days.

Not just you. They have definitely moved away from their promise.

UPS hasn't done much better on the actual delivery. I had one package left on top of the mailbox (500 ft away and not visible from the house) at 8:30 Friday night. I got a delivery notice that said it was on the front porch. I looked around the porch and garage for it and figured it was delivered to the wrong house. I found it soaked and ruined at 9am Saturday.

When I called LL Bean they said to ship it back?? and they would replace it when they receive the return. I asked them to go ahead and reship it now because it is a present and they said to call back Monday with the return shipment number and they would do that. I don't know why they want a soaking wet wool sweater and hiking boots, but they pay return shipping.

I called UPS to complain Friday. They put a package inside my mailbox, which I believe is a violation of federal law. Not Surepost, Beown Truck. The mail carrier couldn't leave my regular mail because the box was full.

IMO... the reason they want it back...
Is while most of us are honest...
Not everyone is...
And verifying does save some $$$.

I have a PO box at a UPS store... they receive packages for me... including Amazon.
This arrangement seems to work out well... as my mail is secure and my packages are secure.
If any of you have ever been through cleaning up identity theft (stolen CC)... you know how valuable secure mail is!!!
The only drawback is when the store is closed... the packages are not accessible. They are open on Saturdays though.

On the prime thing... my understanding is: there are lots of 'independent contractors' running packages... I wonder if they are flunkies... like cable TV installers???

I am beginning to think shopping at Walmart makes more sense than ordering from Amazon...
Thoughts????

Could have been the mail carrier, UPS has a process where they hand off small deliveries to the USPS for a fee. Got something the other day that UPS had flagged as delivered at 20 after midnight!! It arrived the next afternoon in the mail. Packages go to Dallas PO, then are sent to Hiram PO, (at 20 after midnight), then out for delivery.

That's Surepost, but this was a standard delivery.

I wonder how much of this is temp workers who really don't give a hoot. I seriously doubt my regular UPS guy would have left that package at the mailbox. He knows to come up to the house and beep the horn. If nobody comes out he leaves packages on the porch. At least that's what he did before.

I suspect I am gonna be in for a learning curve...

My old residence was a 'normal' run of the mill house in a subdivision...
My new residence is on acreage (same subdivision), with a driveway that is .125 mile long.
There is a mailbox close to the house (end of driveway) and a mailbox on the street.
I have been checking both... so far most of the mail is delivered to the one close to the house...
But a few things were in the one on the street.

I really like the PO box at the UPS store... wish there was some way to receive absolutely ZERO mail at my physical residence.

I was talking to a UPS friend and the atl area has a new program where packages for remote areas are passed off to UBER type contractors for delivery while the trucks do the more urban areas. He is not thrilled with the program because of the fear of stuff like you saw.

I'm sure it's a factor. I know that the shipping industry is impossibly overwhelmed by the proliferation of internet sales, and I'm trying to be understanding. But they need to do a better job at teachine their drivers basic things like to not leave packages out in the rain or violate federal law by putting them in a mailbox.

The USPS Domestic Mail Manual states that “no part of a mail receptacle may be used to deliver any matter not bearing postage, including items of matter placed upon, supported by, attached to, hung from, or inserted into a mail receptacle.” In other words, the mailbox may not be used for anything other than for pieces of mail with postage attached.

The USPS Domestic Mail Manual goes on to states that it is a federal offense and there is a significant penalty for violating this law.

Physically shopping at Walmart, yes. Online with Walmart, NO. They use an even worse vendor to ship called Lasership. You should see that company's BBB report. OMG they are bad. I never got something I ordered from Walmart.com so I got my money back. A 26 lb package that showed it was in the Lasership warehouse but never got delivered. They told Walmart is was "lost" in transit. How it can be lost when it was scanned in their warehouse I have no idea. Shippers are getting lazy and I don't think it will get any better as more millennials start taking these jobs when they really dont want to work in the first place.

Online shopping is easy while sitting at home in pj’s sipping a nice warm cup of hot chocolate. It quickly becomes a nightmare when those clicks transform into real world action with high expectation of vendor service, at least until technology allows those packages to jump out of the screen (think 3D printing).

This is SOOOOO true!

I wonder if anyone was wise enough to see this coming...

Seems we as a society are inherently lazy... and we have to experience pain for that lazyness to learn to quit with it.

Yeah, this is a lady thing... however I like to shop for things.
No, not compare this price to that... rather physically look at it, touch it, feel it... then determine if I want to buy it.
Kinda hard to do online.
And with some folks... it is getting harder to send things back.

I have had no issues with UPS or Fed Ex. I have constant problems with USPS. In fact I talked to the PM in Dallas this morning. I should have went out and talked to a tree. She showed zero concern for my issues. My carrier is consistent. He consistently leaves the neighbors mail in my box and God only knows where my mail goes. I (actually "she who must be obeyed") currently have a missing package. The online tracker says it was on the Dallas carriers truck 12/1 for delivery and has since fallen into a black hole and disappeared. My first two calls resulted in twenty rings each and no answer. My second call twenty rings and the PM answered. I explained, gave the tracking number and was put on hold faster than crap through a goose. Twelve minute hold and disconnected. Called back, different actor answered in five rings, explained again, hold again, came back "yeah it shows it was out for delivery 12/1 but was never scanned as delivered". Stonewall replied "Ah Hell you don't say". I inquired as to whether she was the carrier supervisor. Of course not. "May I speak to her?". Hold again. "Hello this is the supervisor". Explained again. Hold again. "Yeah it shows it was out for delivery 12/1 but does not show a delivered scan". "The Hell you say what about that" sarcastic SW replies. "I will have to talk to your carrier and call you back". SW still waiting on that call. My next conversation will be face to face so I may need some bail help from my Hwy buddies.

Nobody seems to care anymore...

I have an idea...

Lets start shopping at local 'brick and mortar' outlets...

And the delivery folks will LOOSE their jobs...
(Other than the post office... I understand it is impossible to be fired from there)

Grin
