Dec 13, 2013 | by Brendan McGarry

The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation Thursday that would reduce pay raises for troops and retirement benefits for veterans.

A day before adjourning for holiday recess, the Republican-controlled chamber voted 332-94 to approve the Bipartisan Budget Act. Under the bill, federal agencies such as the Defense Department would avoid about $62 billion in automatic budget cuts, known as sequestration, over two years.

It would be paid for in part by scaling back pensions for working-age military retirees.

How long, UM? Well, just till a year goes around when they haven't had one (raise, that is). Ye gods. These people are lower than scum.

I think every member of Congress should be paid the same as the AVERAGE soldier's pay. Ditto health care, ditto retirement.

I hate people.

Just sayin'

SMH. Paul Ryan let us down big time.

And he is not done yet... can you say shamnesty ? ? ?

So I hear. I was really behind him during the Obamacare debates, and even before. He seemed like one of the few willing to have the difficult discussions about reducing the deficit. But you don't come out of a budget battle double counting savings, from yet another "I'll gladly cut spending Tuesday for a spending increase today" while targeting the absolutely most defensible part of the budget. Only an idiot would cut veteran's benefits with the first slice of the scalpel. I guess that Tom Coburn is the last hope that a rational human being exists inside the beltway. By the way, Saxby voted for it.

Ryan is the mirror image of the Democrats he fought in 2009. I will be somewhat surprised if he wins reelection, but he is now obviously being groomed by the powers that be in the Party. Rumor has it that he will get the chair on Ways and Means after the next election, a promotion from Budget, but not quite Appropriations. One wonders if they are conceding 2016 to Hillary and preparing for 2020.

Remember my monkey analogy? Yeah, that. Replace them all at once or we will never win the war.

I completely agree on Ryan. I understand his legislative strategy with this deal, but I cannot support the capitulation.
I do not understand his cow towing to big business interests on the immigration issue... except to protect fundraising.

He thinks we will swallow the budget deal and amnesty debacle in exchange for victory over Obamacare, I ain't so sure.

The only way there will be a victory over Obamacare will be with a supermajority. We are totally screwed already. Maybe, just maybe, we can tweak it, but we will never get rid of it or replace it. Exchanges and subsidies are here to stay even if nobody able to pay signs up.
