My way or the Highway method of doing business.

I've encountered this type of business person before, and I WILL NOT give them my business.

For the last couple of years we have had bats in the gable vent of our roof. They are not back yet, but I suspect they will return. The good part...the eat the skeeters. The bad part is their waste.

I saw a truck and called a company called "Rid a Critter". Talked to the dude on the phone and he said they install wire screens and seal the entire roof line. Probably around $1,000.00. I asked, "what if they're just entering the gable vent? There is an interior screen and I have not seen bats or their crap in the attic. He said he would run by and look at it. He said they warranty their work in the event the bats return.

He called this morning and said the entire job would cost $1,575.00. I replied, "I know you wouldn't be able to warranty the job, but how much just to install the wire mesh over the front of the vent." He refused, saying he wouldn't do a partial job because he couldn't warranty it.

Knowing how frequently these types of companies go out of business, I didn't care. I said that I understood that and wouldn't expect him to warranty the job. I would just like the wire mesh put over the vents (I'd do it myself but would have to rent a 30 foot ladder). He refused and said we had already talked about that. I told him we HAD NOT spoken about a partial job. I told him that in the late 1970's, when I used to steam clean carpet that I would frequently give estimates for a full house cleaning and people would often say, "Well, I'd like to, but we can only afford the living room and hall cleaned right now." I NEVER refused to do it.

It's for the best because I didn't like his attitude anyway. I have developed a pretty good nose for a scam over the years. He knows I would not be able to truly confirm whether he sealed the entire roof line or not at that height, so in so many words, I told him to get lost. He sounded VERY much like the type that would give me the "run around" if I had him do the work and needed him to return to make good on his "warranty"

Like Sweet Brown says...."Ain't nobody got time fo dat!"

I had a similar scenario with a lawn service company I considered trying. The name of the company was Kiss My Grass which says a lot before we even start talking estimates. My neighbor uses the for a lot of their work so I considered them but something just didn't feel right so I told them to Kiss My Grass instead.
